Played second show of the tour this morning at the Children's Courtyard in Austin, TX. What a wonderful audience! Kids ranged from toddler all the way to middle school, and we had a great time--even in the midst of a few crying little ones! The freestyle rap suggestions were horses, people, a skunk, a dog, a monkey swinging from a vine, the USA, and I believe there was one other thing I am forgetting. Heading to Waco tomorrow!

Celebration options run from gaming to tea parties

Parker started writing songs for young audiences almost by accident.
“I wrote a song called ‘Toy Dinosaurs,’ and it occurred to me or someone else that this is a song that’s really appropriate for kids,” he said. “And I looked at some other songs I had written years before, and thought, ‘These would also be good for kids.’ So I made a decision that maybe I should try intentionally writing songs for kids.”
The songs are funny and sweet, and might fit right into a They Might Be Giants playlist. “I Am a Dragon,” for instance, talks about how he is a dragon, “I just don’t do what they do.”
He has come up with dance moves that he teaches to kids so that they can take part in his sets. The steps are woven into the lyrics of “High Five Yourself:” “High five yourself, high five your friend, high five your foot and high five your head.”
Parker, who also plays for grown-ups, enjoys playing for youngsters.
“It’s a blast,” he said. “I love it. I can’t believe I get paid to do it.”
